The
Sun Sentinel's Angel Streeter has
this welcome news:
Palm Beach County is in the midst of adopting a regional trails plan to create a network of connected paths next to major roads, railroads and canals. Broward County also is a part of that regional plan and has a number of off-road projects in the works in the coming years.
These off-road trails, also called greenways, are typically about 10 feet wide, much bigger than a standard sidewalk, providing space for both pedestrians and cyclists. The paved or unpaved paths are separated from roadways so pedestrians and cyclists don't have to worry about car traffic interfering with more leisurely travels.
[and. . .]
In Delray Beach, they are working on establishing a greenway on State Road A1A between Casuarina Road and George Bush Boulevard and having it become part of the East Coast Greenway.
"We want to promote a more walkable and bike-friendly city," said Charles Bonfield, a Delray Beach bike and pedestrian advocate who is working with the city to create the greenway. "This is in line with encouraging biking and walking."
On the subject of bike trails the bike riding public in West Palm Beach, Lake Worth and other nearby communities will be interested in the idea brought back from Copenhagen by WPB Mayor Muoio
for a Greenway Loop surrounding the city. Think of a spur off that loop going to the Lake Worth BEACH! or the downtown? Stay tuned for more on this idea.
