Retha Lowe Sworn-in Friday

The City Commission met briefly to certify the election results from March 13th, set the ballot for the run-off election and swore in Retha Lowe as Commissioner for District #1.

CONGRATULATIONS RETHA!! Let's keep working together for all of Lake Worth!

NEW SIGNS ARE HERE!!

We just got a boatload of new signs in (above). You have a couple of options. You can stop by the Mad Hatter (S/E corner of 16th Ave. N. and N. Dixie) and pick up a bunch, you can call 758 4397 and either get me or leave a message or email me at wesblackman@gmail.com

If you leave a message, state the number of signs that you would like and where you want them delivered.

Thanks a bunch!!

Oh, and leave the old signs up - these are in addition to the ones left (the ones not taken). Many people have asked for signs and there were none left to be had. Now we have a new supply.

Hey there, just a few words...

...about what is happening here over the next two weeks.

First, a little bit of looking back. Your response has been overwhelming! Your expressions of support since Election Day, last Tuesday, are sincerely appreciated. And in your expressions of support I sense a feeling of urgency. We are so close to righting the S.S. City of Lake Worth and setting sail in calmer, more productive waters. We had significant victories on Tuesday - the defeat of the Supermajority amendment, which would have distorted our democratic processes here in the City of Lake Worth as it related to Comprehensive Plan, Zoning and Land Use changes. You, the voters, saw through the scare tactics employed by the opposition. There is no widespread "up-zoning" - I dislike the term - of single family neighborhoods in Lake Worth. Soon, the new Commission will be considering a massive revision to our Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Code in order to better reflect the vision of the citizen's produced over a period of two and a half years through our Master Planning process. We have a lot to be proud of, but again - there is a sense of urgency - that we have been adrift far too long. But we are now about to experience the light at a new break of day.

Let's not forget too - Retha Lowe's big win Tuesday, being re-elected Commissioner of District #1 over Mr. Exline. Justice triumphs! CONGRATULATIONS RETHA!!

And as I go around the City, door to door, the most common response I get regarding the beach is "When are we going to make it nicer and worth going to?". When I tell them that the Beach is a "go" - that the Commission acted 6 months ago to move forward in a private/public partnership, secured $5 million in County money, will not give up ownership of the beach, lease it for 20 years, inherit the building that the private sector is building for us, be released from the maintenance burden and still take care of the duties suited to a municipality - that of public safety - in the form of lifeguards and police presence at the beach - they usually respond: "Wow, I didn't know we were that far along. Let's get it finished!" . And, throughout construction and after the building and improvements are finished, the beach will remain open to the public. Since we entered the agreement, we need to follow through on our obligations - establishing a land use designation with State approval (preliminary results of their review are POSITIVE!!) and establishing a new zoning district for the property (well underway and already passed on first reading by the current City Commission.) If the private party fails in their obligations, then it will be back to the drawing board as a community. I liked what Mayoral Candidate Jeff Clemens had to say about that prospect at the last Mayoral debate held by the Lake Worth Democratic Club - conduct intensive polling of Lake Worth residents and let that guide the decision. In the meantime, we follow through with the agreement we have entered into.

So, you can see, we really do have a lot to look forward to and that the glass is indeed more than half full.

Now, what can you expect in the next two weeks.

I have asked, through Jim Stafford of Lake Worth Talk.com, to debate my remaining opponent in the District #3 race. It has been more than 24 hours and she has not gotten back to Jim, so there will be no debate - unfortunately. However, I will have two separate hours on Lake Worth Talk before the run-off election on March 27th for you to ask questions and share your concerns regarding the future of our City.

I will also be taking my campaign to the streets again - this with the assistance of volunteers - and introducing myself to you and getting to know you better on how I can serve as your next District #3 Commissioner. We are also getting new "run-off" signs that will be here in a few days. Watch this blog for announcements! I will also be calling certain individuals, leaders in our community and current contributors to my campaign, and getting their formal endorsement and will be presenting that in a unique way to the community. I am very excited about that prospect.

Please call me at my special campaign cell phone number: 758 4397. This can be for your questions, concerns, offers to volunteer, and/or ways to contribute to my campaign. You may also reach me publicly here by clicking on the comment area below any entry on the blog. And, you can e-mail me at wesblackman@gmail.com.

Thanks for visiting here! There is a bright future for our City of Lake Worth. Be a part of it - join my campaign and help us get there! But, most importantly, remember to:

Information Regarding Contributions for a Run-Off

Many people have asked what are the limitations for contributions in a run-off campaign.

It is considered a "new" campaign - meaning even if you contributed to my campaign leading up to the General Election on March 13th, you may now contribute up to $500 per person, per entity for this run-off campaign.

There's got to be a morning after
If we can hold on through the night
We have a chance to find the sunshine
Let's keep on lookin' for the
light
Oh, can't you see the morning after?
It's waiting right outside
the storm
Why don't we cross the bridge together
And find a place that's
safe and warm?
It's not too late, we should be giving
Only with love can
we climb
It's not too late, not while we're living
Let's put our hands
out in time
There's got to be a morning after
We're moving closer to the
shore
I know we'll be there by tomorrow
And we'll escape the darkness
We won't be searchin' any more

Picnic Fun at Bryant Park!

Another busy day, leading to the climactic events of next Tuesday. I worked some neighborhoods earlier in the day. Thanks Roger for assisting in the walking activities. We bumped into the parade put on by the Anti-Supermajority folks - quite a display!

A word about the picnic. I sent a mass call out to people in Lake Worth on Friday and then again on Saturday announcing the picnic as an opportunity to get together. A great time to talk about things Lake Worth. Well, the "robo-call" that went out - if it landed on answering machines - had the first part of the message cut-off. So, some of the information went missing. When I was walking both days, people commented that they got the message. My apologies if you wanted to attend and couldn't due to the goof in the message. Anyway, as you can see from the pictures, we had a good time. The folks from the parade ended up here at the end of the day and we had a nice rally. Go Team!

These are friends Bill Martin, Jim Lewis and Herman Robinson. Thanks to Herman for the use of your truck in getting the grill to its rightful home!

Thanks to Walter and Judy Baker who took care of the cooking chores. Some of you may know Walter from the Lunch Box on Lake Worth Talk.com. We were planning on using the grills provided at the park, courtesy of the Lake Worth Kiwanis Club, but the grates had been taken. (Argh!) So, thanks also to Walter for donating the gas grill for the event.

Thanks to Jeff Clemens and Retha Lowe for attending! Nice to see you all there!

Interview with WPBR 1340 AM with Radio Bob and Reggie

On Saturday, Jeff Clemens, Drew Martin and I participated in an interview on Haitian Community Radio. It was great to be there and address issues important to this portion of the community. Thanks to Bob and Reggie Jeune for the invitation and I look forward to future appearances.
