National Park(ing) Day

This is a national event put on by the Trust for Public Land. It spotlights the importance of green space in urban areas. West Palm Beach is a participant this year and they converted a number of parallel parking spaces to temporary park space. If you catch Channel 5 News today, you may see their story on it.

On the website, check out the list of cities that are participating this year and how they are honoring the day. Lake Worth should participate next year!

Busy Week!

Lots of things going on this week. I've spent a lot of time helping Jim Stafford with his new discussion board. You can check it out by clicking here.

There are many improvements and improved moderation of the comments. Stop by and become a registered member.

We also had a City Commission meeting on Tuesday night. The Commission directed the City Attorney to prepare ordinances that would change the City Charter. Specifically, that the terms of Commissioners and Mayor be extended from two (2) to three (3) years and that the provision for run-off elections be repealed. Currently, if a candidate does not get more than 50% of the votes in the General Election, the two recipients of the highest number of votes face a run-off two weeks after the General Election.

Besides that item, there are many that are building up in a line ready for posts on this blog. Look for more in-depth analysis on the above charter amendments, some things brewing on the redevelopment front and a special feature from one of my side trips while in Indiana - among other things.

Here are some pictures from my birthday party at the Mad Hatter last night. I am sure that you will see some familiar faces. Thanks for dropping by! More later!

Truth Matters - Schedule

From here on out, we will be doing the Truth Matters show on the "off" Tuesdays from regular City Commission meetings. Since there is a Commission meeting coming up this Tuesday night the 18th, the next Truth Matters show will be on the following Tuesday the 25th. When a month has five Tuesdays, we will do an extra show.

That way, you will have a place to come and listen to what is going on in Lake Worth and not miss any of the action. The former day - Sunday - proved difficult for many people to fit into their schedules - including mine.

Look forward to up-coming posts on Tuesday's meeting - including the proposal to go to three year Commission terms, the elimination of the run-off election and the Lake Worth CDC appeal of the Planning and Zoning Board decision regarding a variance for one of their properties.

Thanks! Remember, truth matters.
