"Greenacres, however, is not alone. Home construction in Palm Beach County is at the highest level its been in six years.

The Palm Beach Post recently reported that builders started construction on almost 600 homes during the first three months of 2014, an 11 percent increase from the end of this past year.

“Most builders in the county are pursuing development and construction plans for new housing development,” Atallah said. “Home building is returning to prerecession levels.”

Lanahan also pointed to commercial projects on the horizon, including a proposed office project on Jog Road and Monterey Market, a fruits and vegetable store, opening a third location in the city where the old Winn-Dixie once stood on Forest Hill Boulevard and Jog Road.

“There’s much more activity than there was five years ago,” Lanahan said. “People are actively looking for property.

“We’ve seen the pace of our workload for development approvals increasing the last two years. That homebuilders want to develop these properties must mean they think there’s a stream of buyers out there that will continue to come to this market.”"
