Watch this informative video on the concept of an open streets project. Communities around the world are adopting a periodic "take back" of the streets by people, businesses and bicycles for a day or a series of days through a season. The video inspires many ideas. According to the WalkableWPB blog, Ananth Prasad, PE and FDOT Secretary is interested in organizing a regular Ciclovia in Florida.

How about going all the way and choosing Dixie Hwy. as a project? The video shows how you can play with different potential lane configurations during the time that automobile traffic is missing from the roadway. This could lead to the ultimate re-working of Dixie Hwy. that would make it more of a pedestrian and bike friendly public space, rather than just a road for traffic and a dividing line in our city. Think about it.
