Western Communities Council hires lobbyist to push State Road...

Royal Palm Beach Mayor Mattioli, re-elected in yesterday's election, wants the road to be built, along with other western community leaders. However, West Palm Beach Mayor Muoio doesn't want the extension and cites environmental concerns related to the city's water catchment area. The Western Communities Council, a collection of governing bodies of western Palm Beach County communities, wants to lobby the federal government to pay for the project. U.S. Reps. Lois Frankel, D-West Palm Beach, and Alcee Hastings, D-Miramar, signed letters supporting West Palm Beach’s environmental concerns, a move that angered some Village Council members.
“This road will be built and funded,” Mayor Matty Mattioli [Mayor, Village of Royal Palm Beach Council] said in December. “Why are we going through all this crap? Because of the jackasses in West Palm Beach.”
