These complaints are coming after FPLs broad installation of smart meters. In fact, a neighbor of mine was an electrician that did many of these installations. There was an "opt out" option, but if you chose not to have a smart meter, there was a one time charge and a monthly fee since manual reading would still be necessary. Shirley Jackson, a Juno Isles resident and retired educator, said she first noticed how smart meters affect her when she visited rental property she owned in Palm Beach Shores in April 2013. A bank of 12 smart meters was nearby.
“My skin begins to be very itchy and feel like it is burned,” Jackson said Tuesday. “I start getting tremors in my throat and tongue.”
