College Park Neighborhood Update

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

College Park residents have reported a number of recent bicycle thefts in the middle of the day, even while residents are home! PBSO advises all residents to be aware and to keep bicycles safely secured, car doors locked and home security systems activated. Please continue to report any suspicious behavior on the non-emergency PBSO hotline at 688-3400. Always call 911 to report immediate threats to life or property.

On Wednesday, May 21st, the City will hold a "Town Hall" style meeting presenting details related to the Lake Worth 2020 Infrastructure, Street and Sidewalk Plan and the proposed $60 million bond referendum that may come before the voters in the August election. This meeting on May 21st will be held at the First Congregational Church, 1415 North K Street at 6PM. The presentation gives an overview of what the overall plan includes for the entire City and more specifically, what the plan includes for College Park and District 3.

The cost of the project and how that cost will affect individual property owners based on the taxable value of their property will be discussed. Commissioner Andy Amoroso, (District 3) along with City staff will be present to answer questions. The decision to place this referendum on the ballot, or not, will be made by the City Commission in early June. A preview of the presentation is available on the City's website.  Information about the taxable value of individual properties can be found on the Property Appraiser's website.

Monday, May 26th is the beginning of Vegetation Amnesty Week in the City of Lake Worth. Residents in College Park and all of District 3, can begin placing up to 12 cubic yards of vegetative waste at the curb on Monday the 26th to be picked up on Friday, May 30th. No citations for "early outs" will be issued during that week. The Amnesty applies only to residential properties. For more information on acceptable tree pruning practices, please contact City Horticulturist, Dave McGrew at dmcgrew@lakeworth.org. For more information about the Vegetation Amnesty Week, please call the City's refuse dept. at 533-7344.

The project to upgrade the natural gas lines in College Park is winding up and the final phase to connect individual properties to the new lines has begun. An in-home inspection of existing gas appliances is required before the final connection can be made. Residents are reminded to ask for identification before allowing anyone access to their homes. A sample ID card is available on the College Park website at www.collegeparklakeworth.com. Questions and concerns regarding this project may be directed to Mears Group Inc. Supervisor, Eric Sample at (404) 391-0688 or GRIPconstruction@mears.net

Finally, a reminder that Summer Vacation for our school children is upon us. Please be extra careful driving through College Park.
