Do you and the kids still got the blues today about Monkey Joe’s? Would a little Soulshine help?

But first, an important public service announcement before we get to Monkey Joe’s.

About your day yesterday did you notice any flooding in the City of Lake Worth?

If you did, below is very important information. If there was flooding in your neighborhood you need to have this situation fixed immediately. Find out who to contact below.

Or because of heavy rain yesterday did you notice an issue with a tree or vegetation in an alley? Please be advised: DO NOT cut down or trim any tree or remove vegetation in any City easement, e.g., an alley or emergency roadway.

That is the City’s responsibility. Not yours. Your day could take a very nasty turn if you touch a power line. Or cut a cable line. Your neighbors will not be amused to come home and find out the cable TV is not working and then find out it was you who did it.

Learn all about this and more below and Thank You for visiting once again today! Please continue reading. Oh. And by the way, off topic. When was the last time you heard the rousing song Soulshine by The Allman Brothers Band? See a rendition of that famous American blues song below, at the end of this blog post. A song that will most definitely put some sunshine in your day today.

Now back to Monkey Joe’s.

Did everyone get all bummed out by all the rain yesterday and looking for something new to do. Something nearby and exciting in this City of Lake Worth?

So did your family get all excited when one of the kids heard about a story in the Post, a place in Lake Worth called Monkey Joe’s! This is the news published in the Post yesterday:

Kids can bounce for hours in this indoor playground in Lake Worth. There are wall-to-wall inflatable slides, jumps and an obstacle course. Plus, there’s a small arcade for the kids to enjoy.

Monkey Joe’s sounds like a lot of fun, doesn’t it?

Really. The Fun Depot amusement center on 10th Ave. North in Lake Worth can be a lot of fun sometimes but the kids are looking for something new in this City!

So everyone jumps into the car and you start out for Monkey Joe’s. One of the kids finds information about Monkey Joe’s and puts that information in the map for directions and then the kid turns around and starts crying and says,

“Gee wiz. Monkey Joe’s is at 6250 Lantana Rd.!”

No. Monkey Joe’s is not ‘in Lake Worth’. The story in The Palm Beach Post was wrong.

Monkey Joe’s is far out west near Greenacres in unincorporated Palm Beach County, an area in what is accurately called “suburban Lake Worth” because it just happens to have a ‘Lake Worth’ zip code. Apparently, there remain some reporters at the Post who still don’t know how to use a map.*

What a bummer.

However, if you are still bummed out and got the blues below is a YouTube video to make you feel better.

Have you ever seen the video of Jamie Brown and his rendition of Soulshine at the very first Lake Worth Has Talent show?

It was this performance that people are still talking about, it brought the house down, a rousing standing applause by the crowd that stirred up the ghosts at the Playhouse too. If you didn’t know Lake Worth Has Talent is held annually at the Lake Worth Playhouse to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network.

Who is Jamie Brown? That would be the City of Lake Worth’s Director of Public Services.

And before we get to that video. Did you notice any flooding in your neighborhood yesterday? What you can do is contact a beat reporter at the Post or contact somebody at CBS12 (WPEC). That will certainly get you noticed. But it will not fix your problem. Reporters don’t clear stormwater drains.

But contacting the Public Services Dept. in the City of Lake Worth will most certainly do the trick, to learn more click on this link.

Without further ado.

About the video: Mark Easton was in attendance that Sunday afternoon in November 2015. Easton is the publisher of The Lake Worth Herald and he had to quickly switch cameras to get this performance of the Blues classic, Soulshine.

Enjoy!

FYI: “Soulshine” is a song recorded by The Allman Brothers Band and released on their 1994 album “Where It All Begins,” written by guitarist Warren Haynes with vocals by Gregg Allman. Song’s title originates from Haynes’ nickname, given by his father. Although never released as a single, it still remains one of the Allmans’ best known songs among fans and concert-goers.

And lastly, as promised, Mr. Dave McGrew in the Public Services Dept. noted at a recent meeting of the City Commission on landscape regulations that the public should never cut down trees or bushes in the City’s easements (e.g., in the alley behind one’s home).

That is the City’s responsibility. Not the responsibility of the citizenry. The folks at Public Services want to ensure no one gets injured and that no underground or overground utilities are damaged.

If you have an issue or questions about tree(s) or vegetation in an easement contact the Public Services Dept. at 561-586-7433 on Monday–Friday from 8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. or send an email to the inimitable Mr. Dave McGrew: dmcgrew@lakeworth.org

*From the headquarters of The Palm Beach Post on S. Dixie Hwy. in West Palm, the quickest way to Monkey Joe’s is to take Exit 61 (Lantana Rd.) off I-95 and head west. Pass the Palm Beach County Park Airport and pass the Great Walled City of Atlantis you’ll come up to Haverhill Rd.

Continue west on Haverhill over a north-south drainage canal and you’ll see Edgecliff Ave. on your right. Further up on the left (south side of Lantana Rd.) you will see Monkey Joe’s. If you come up on Jog Rd. you went too far.

And don’t forget to bring socks! Monkey Joe’s will not let you play without socks on. It’s the rule, no socks no play.
