City residents — and the entire Vero Beach community — stand to benefit from the sale of the electric utility. FPL President Eric Silagy projects annual savings for a typical residential customer in Vero Beach will be about $400 a year as an FPL customer. The savings for businesses, government offices and schools — buildings with larger square footage — would be greater. Proponents of the sale also project that current Vero Beach customers, collectively, could have an additional $23 million in their pockets annually to plow back into the local economy.
