The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission recently released a report focusing on the impact of future development on Florida's fish and wildlife resources and our enjoyment of those resources. Entitled Wildlife 2060: What's at stake for Florida, this report suggests that the best strategies to give large animals and sensitive species a chance include: acquiring and protecting large parcels; promoting compatible agricultural activities; utilizing alternative protection techniques such as conservation easements and tax incentives; and ensuring that thoughtful, large-scale land-use planning, development design and meaningful mitigation agreements are put in place.
