Quick trip to Jupiter yesterday.

Bill and I took a quick trip to Jupiter yesterday. I had seen a segment on a local news channel about a relatively large mixed-use development going up there. Residents were interviewed and most complained that they didn't see how it fit in with the scale of development in Jupiter and how it no longer had a small town feel. It's called Harbourside Place and it is at the northwest corner of Indiantown Road and U.S. 1. You can check out the renderings and site plan here. A five story hotel is part of the development.

A few things to know about Jupiter. Fortunately, you can find out a lot of information from their state-of-the-art website. This municipal fact sheet is especially helpful. Notice that they also provide links to their Facebook page and Twitter account through their website. The town's median income is around $65,000, which is between 2 to 3 times what Lake Worth's is. At 55,000 residents, it has about 20,000 more people than Lake Worth. Almost half of Jupiter's population has a Bachelor's Degree or higher. In terms of market attractiveness to developers, Jupiter has - hands down -a more attractive demographic profile than Lake Worth.  For that reason alone, it is unlikely that Lake Worth would ever see a similar project in the foreseeable future. We also do not have the lot size or contiguous land available for this sort of project.

This is how the work is progressing so far. Completion is set for late in 2014.

After that photo safari, we visited the Food Shack which is in the shopping plaza on the southeast corner of the same intersection. If you find yourself in Jupiter, you really should check it out. Neat atmosphere too - check out these pics.
