The mayor is so political and a big fony boloney. He plays so many games like this with his little presentations and coffees. I have lost all respect for him now. If he really wants to do something, he should return e-mails that his constituents write to him with concerns. He should attend all the NA meetings, events, and activities throughout the city like he did before he was elected mayor. He should not walk out of on meetings and face the public and commission with respect. He is a big hypocrite now, he did so much to be elected attending so many NA meetings and saying he would address all the blight, crime, codes, and poor rundown area in the west, what results are you seeing on these fronts? None! He is a big fake and it is catching up to him now. It is too bad he fell into the trap that so many politicians do, respect for him in our city is diminishing quickly.

He's guaranteed to use the Jeff Clemens, I'm only one vote what can I do excuse. Meanwhile the anarchist and her lapdogs are making him look weak and ineffective. He better hope that one of the commissioners gets voted out in November or we'll be calling him Rene Clemens and he'll have wasted 2 years of his life.

Update from last night's City Commission meeting: The Mayor reminded those in attendance of this talk tonight (7/21) but said he wouldn't take questions since "that wouldn't be proper."

It will be similar to his State of the City address--political.

Rene has aspirations to higher office and wants to be a "career politician." Rene is smart and he assured us last night that he will be very candid on our financial condition. If he is not, it will hurt him politically. I am sure that he will handle this well.

As far as doing the same things as he did before he was elected, I would suggest that there is just not enough time in the day to handle all the responsibilities and functions that he must attend. Let's give him a break. He is getting better. He is his own man.

It seems to me that Varela is a fraud, a poor leader and doesn’t know how to run a meeting.
Only a fraud would campaign on a platform of not being like the good old boys and then counter criticism with a reminder that his predecessors also played politics in making Board appointments.
Only a poor leader would leave the dais and set the example for others to conduct themselves just as poorly.
Only a weak meeting chair would direct a “Let me count to three” City Manager to address a potential ethics violation of Commissioner Jennings instead of directing the investigation to our City Attorney. It is noted that given the politics, limited abilities and personalities involved, the outcome will be the same.

Mayor Varela last night "I just direct traffic and try to get to a result" and "I have only been here 8 months so I defer to those that that have been here longer."

Did Varela mean to say that he was just following Cara’s lead?

Yes, I think so...and Jo Ann's and Suzanne's. And I don't think he much cares about the result and long as there is one. That's my take.

Mary L. Rene's friend has been sending out e-mails to all trying to rally the troops to attend this for Rene, but I do understand why many might not want to, Rene has done a lot now and many do nto want to support him further, it seems even Ryan and other supported now see that he did all he did just to get elected, now that he is in power, he doesn't want to take the time to attend NA meetings and other events to help improve community. I wouldn't be surprised to see that maybe even Mary now will run against him the next time for mayor. People are losgin faith in Rene fast.
